Flooring is an important part of every home. The wrong look or feel to a floor can ruin a whole room or house. Wooden floors can splinter and rot. Tile cracks, and linoleum can peel. Homeowners have many products to choose from, but one attractive option is cork floors. Cork floors are a combination of the best features from several different kinds of flooring in unique and attractive designs. Before deciding on cork floors, there are a few things prospective buyers must consider.

There are a few good aspects about cork floors. First, cork floors provide much better acoustic and thermal insulation than most standard floors. Also, natural cork flooring is a great water and air sealant, meaning that it is quite durable in all kinds of weather conditions. Additionally, natural cork flooring is fire resistant and considerably cheaper than most popular wood flooring models. Cork floors tile designs come in many attractive colors and styles and fit well with most wood grains.

Cork floors do have some issues consumers should be aware of, however. While it is generally fairly easy to apply, some cork floor tiling can be tough to properly lay down. Additionally, while it is overall more durable than most woods, cork floor tiling is more liable to chipping and staining than other woods. Even so, the wide array of tile designs and the discount involved in homeowners installing cork floors themselves is enough to get them a lot of consideration.

Cork floors are perfect for individuals looking to add a little kitch design to their home. Many museums and public office buildings prefer cork floors because of their durability and rustic look. Home owners often look to give their homes a certain look or feel. Darker, more aged-looking cork floors can give a home the perfect kind of appealing kitch design, at a considerable discount over similar woods.

Cork floors can be installed in one of two methods. Either floating cork floor tiling, which is essentially just interlocking pieces of cork laid over the floor with hard plywood or plastic inserts to support it. These pieces are tightly packed, but offer nothing extra to keep them on the floor, which can be great for taking the floor tiling apart, but a hassle during the floor's lifetime. Otherwise, cork floors come glued to the floor. This offers longer stability, but the glue can shift and peel under the flooring, and glued floors can be difficult to take apart.

Cork floors are a nice, clean and durable alternative to wood or ceramic flooring. It is good looking, fire resistant, an excellent water seal, and a better noise dampener than almost any flooring option on the market right now. Cork floors are a good discount compared to most woods, priced at around $5 per square foot of floor tiling. Home owners should beware that cork floors are not perfect, but they certainly have a lot of advantages and are worth considering when reflooring a room or home.
